Maya, ZBrush, Substance Painter, Arnold Renderer

Fleshpot wasn't originally supposed to be gross. I was given a basic teapot model, by Hannah Kuehn, and tasked with look development. Since it was nearing Halloween, I wanted to give it a gruesome twist. I pulled inspiration from Ed Gein, Professor Pyg, and anthropodermic bibliopegy.

Using cloth simulation brushes in ZBrush, I sculpted the surface to look like stitched skin. I didn't want the skin to be tight and look like leather, I wanted the skin to be loose to add to the gross factor. When texturing I wanted each patch of skin to be completely unique. No skin patch shares the same color or "ailment."

For the final rendering process, I gave the skin and bone subsurface scattering to make the pot look alive. As if you could open the top and see a beating heart inside. Overall, I wanted to tell a story and leave the viewer intrigued for more.
